Regional Dialogue organized a meeting with Nukus Law College students where the role of defense lawyers in Uzbekistan’s judicial system and the new Constitution were discussed. Mr. Farkhod Romanov, a local defense lawyer, was invited as a guest speaker to talk to students about his profession and the reasons he pursued this career. Mr. Romanov is a winner of the "Exceptional Lawyer" 2022 competition in the category of “Rising Star”. Students learnt that their communities need strong defense lawyers and an adversarial and independent judicial system. The topics of discussion included crime prevention, prosecution, and protection of human rights. Regional Dialogue will continue cooperating with the Chamber of Lawyers to improve the judicial system and promote the profession of defense lawyers in Uzbekistan.
