People with disabilities are at a higher risk of unemployment, marginalization, and poverty. The World Bank reports that around 20% of the world’s poorest individuals have disabilities, and are often viewed as the most disadvantaged in their communities. It is crucial for society to include people with disabilities in all areas of life, ensuring they have equal access to opportunities, resources, and support systems. With this view, Regional Dialogue organized a workshop on disability and inclusion for students participating at Law clinics at law colleges of Tashkent city, Tashkent and Sirdarya provinces on 22 February 2024. Dr. Abdullo Abdukhalilov introduced students to the concept of disability as a social construct, illustrating evolving disability models. One of the participants highlighted that: "One of the greatest barriers seem to be attitudinal, the way society looks and treats people with disabilities."
