Ethics Rules for Criminal Defense Advocates
Ethics Rules for Criminal Defense Advocates

“Ethics rules for criminal defense advocates serve as an armor that protects the right to a fair trial and the integrity of the legal system,” said Steven Van Dyke, a public defender from Massachusetts, USA, at a workshop held on 25 November 2024, at the Lawyer’s Training Center under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event brought together legal professionals to explore key issues in criminal law practice, including the foundations of ethics, the balance between duty to clients and duty to the court, and common ethical challenges faced by criminal lawyers. Participants engaged in discussions and case studies, focusing on the role of ethics in ensuring justice and fairness, as well as effective mechanisms for adjudicating ethics complaints.
