News from Uzbekistan: Key Agreements Reached at Anti-Corruption Meetings

On August 19, a delegation consisting of representatives from the Committee on Combating Corruption and Judiciary Issues of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Anti-Corruption Agency, and the Department of Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office began a visit to Malaysia. The primary goal of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between the anti-corruption agencies of both countries and to discuss expanding practical collaboration in this field. Initially, the delegation held bilateral meetings with the heads of the Special Committee on Public Administration, Integrity, and Combating Corruption of the Malaysian Senate, the organization "Transparency International Malaysia," and the "Center to Combat Corruption and Nepotism" (C4). During these meetings, information was shared about ongoing anti-corruption efforts, the review of mechanisms for regular exchange of experiences at the organizational level, the launch of joint projects, and future plans. Specifically, in a meeting with Arman Azha Abu Hanifa, Chairman of the Special Committee on Public Administration, Integrity, and Combating Corruption of the Malaysian Senate, discussions focused on the role of parliament in establishing a transparent and accountable public administration system and ensuring an effective fight against corruption. The exchange covered the experiences and approaches of both countries in this regard. In a dialogue with Muhammad Mohan, President of Transparency International Malaysia, the conversation centered on the involvement of non-governmental organizations in combating corruption, the implementation of the UN Anti-Corruption Convention and other international standards into national legislation, and the cooperation mechanisms between anti-corruption bodies and civil society institutions. The Malaysian Center to Combat Corruption and Nepotism (C4) aims to promote openness, transparency, and accountability at all levels of government. During the meeting with Edmund Terence Gomes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the center, discussions addressed strengthening national legislation to prevent conflicts of interest, exchanging experiences and professional materials related to human resource development, and strategies for preventing and combating corruption. Significant agreements were reached in these areas.
