Seminar-training on the Institution of Preliminary Hearings in Criminal Cases

Today, Regional Dialogue, in partnership with the Chamber of Advocates, held a seminar training on “The Institution of Preliminary Hearings in Criminal Cases” for defense lawyers of the Tashkent region. The training provided opportunities for participants to learn more about #PreliminaryHearings, the institution that was introduced to the Criminal Procedure Code in 2021, analyze the relevant CPC norms (Chapter 49), discuss changes in the legislation, gaps, and deficiencies in the law, and learn about the US motions practice. The participants worked on the factual scenario developed by Gregory Weddle, Regional Dialogue Legal Specialist, and had a unique opportunity to draft motions individually based on the facts of the case. Such a practical approach helps defense lawyers improve their skills in addition to gaining substantive knowledge on the topic. The training was conducted by Dildora Nurjanova, a lawyer at “De Jure” law firm, and Davron Fozilov, a lawyer at “Amon-Ziyolegal” AB, in coordination with Regional Dialogue Project Manager Nozima Shamsieva. #AdversarialSystem #JudicialSystem #RuleOfLaw #HumanRights
